In a year where we saw the final game of the Halo franchise, yet another Call of Duty, Battlefield, Medal of Honor title, and even another Mario game, some franchises new to the scene have been forgotten. I think these new additions deserve some recognition for at least being original, and not relying on a popular character to spur their sales. Here's the best of the new game IPs released in 2010
Faery: Legends of Avalon starts off very promising with some light, well-done music and cell-shaded graphics that are on par with Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, which is almost impressive for a 1200 point title on the Xbox Live Arcade.
There are updates coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops on all platforms in the near future. All of the fixes (implemented and upcoming) are listed below, but the main things are networking fixes for lag, spawning fixes so you spawn in "safer" areas, only allowing Hardline Pro to re-roll Care Packages, fixing clipping issues on many PC maps, and less knife lunge. Remember not all games are perfect, and at least we can now get patches in our console games instead of patches being PC only.
With the VGAs airing on Spike TV in about an hour, I'd thought I would put up my picks for each award. I'll start by listing off the nominees for each award, and include my pick and reasoning underneath them. Let's hope I do a lot better with my picks this year as opposed to last year.
When you first load up Bit.Trip Beat, it seems like a rhythm based game of Pong, and that’s exactly what it is. You play controlling what is basically the paddle from Pong and either catch or hit back retro Pong-styled balls and other retro-style objects while being bombarded by tons of trippy visuals.
In its recently released Chrome Store, Google has included games in its wide ranging web offerings. Most of the games are just the standard casual web games that are available tons of places around the internet from thousands of different developers, but this inclusion shows how Google is still looking to move into new product areas. But, there are games such as Plants vs. Zombies (the same version available on Steam), and then there’s FarmVille and all of the social games.
